Positions at A Potter’s Place

Do you love clay and bringing people together? A Potter’s Place in Fort Collins, CO, is looking for team members who thrive on creativity and community. We’re more than a studio—we’re a hub where artists connect, and we need your help to make it happen. Explore our positions and find your place in our clay family.

Course Teacher

  • Course Design:

    • Write a compelling course description emphasizing a unique, tending focus.

    • Develop an 8-week syllabus that balances structure with flexibility, incorporates student interests (e.g., cups, vases, bowls), and reinforces the fundamentals through exercises, muscle memory, and clay reuse techniques.

    Instruction:

    • Deliver 3 hours of engaging, hands-on instruction per week (one session), guiding beginners with no prior experience to success on the wheel.

    • Teach techniques for centering clay, adjusting posture for longevity, and processing practice clay for reuse.

    Studio Management:

    • Prepare materials (clay, tools, wheels) before each class.

    • Clean up the studio after sessions, ensuring a tidy and functional space.

    • Track class wares (student projects) through drying, firing, and glazing stages.

    Student Support:

    • Act as the primary point of contact for enrolled students, answering questions about techniques, progress, or studio logistics via email, phone, or in person. Prepare materials (clay, tools, wheels) before each class.

  • Hours: 5.5 hours/week/class (3 hours of instruction, plus prep, cleanup, and student support) As availability allows, teachers can teach up to 4 courses a session.

    • Proven experience with wheel-throwing and/or hand building techniques.

    • Teaching or mentoring experience (formal or informal) preferred.

    • Strong communication and organizational skills.

    • Enthusiasm for working with beginners and fostering a creative, inclusive environment.

    • Ability to manage time effectively across instruction, prep, and cleanup.

Monitor

    • Role: Be the friendly face of our open studio times and community events, fostering a welcoming space for artists to gather and create.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Arrive 15 minutes early to unlock, prep, and set a warm tone for the day.

      • Greet participants, take attendance, sell clay and tools, and answer policy questions to keep the group flowing.

      • Offer clay guidance, group demonstrations, trending tips, etc

      • Guide cleanup with a “last call,” stack stools and pedals, mop the floor, and lock up—leaving the studio ready for the next crew.

Workshop Teacher

    • Role: Lead themed workshops that bring creators together, blending instruction with a shared creative buzz.

    • Responsibilities:

      • Open the studio, set out stools, fill buckets, gather tools, and greet participants with enthusiasm.

      • Teach with care, ensuring wares shine—soften bottoms, label trays, and prep for firing.

      • Clean up—stack stools, wipe tables, mop, and lock up, leaving a space others can enjoy.

Summer Intern

      • Teach 4-day camps, sharing skills and creating a fun, connected vibe for young artists.

      • Support the studio—move pots, organize tools, and pitch in with cleanup alongside our team.
